The purpose of the Traffic Unit is to enhance traffic safety throughout the Lehigh and Berks County areas. It is also intended to maintain a mission of reducing traffic crashes through various means, increase safety belt and child safety seat usage, ensure commercial vehicle compliance and other functions to increase community awareness and traveler's safety. Additionally, the traffic unit will investigate traffic crashes that occur upon the roadways while they are working. The traffic unit officers have specific training in accident reconstruction, motor carrier inspection and motor vehicle crashes involving fatalities.
